Lotus Cars have always been focused on building racing cars and sports cars foremost. They translated this ethos into making lightweight sports vehicles with the most exemplary handling on the market. Our subject vehicle is a rare Lotus Turbo Esprit SE Jim Clark Edition. It bears the number 12 of 20 produced, making it a truly once in a lifetime car to be had, and with just 6750 miles on the clock. This specially made car was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lotus' 1965 Indy win. According to Car & Driver, The Jim Clark package added $2200 to the price of a standard $93,795 Esprit Turbo SE when new. The current owner has reportedly only added 200 miles since purchase in 2018.
Exterior and Interior
Celebrating 25 years of Jim Clarks' achievements, this uber-rare Lotus Esprit is draped in an understated yet gorgeous British Racing Green. This magnificent car rides on a set of yellow OEM Lotus alloys wrapped in Kumho tires. For a special car like this Lotus Esprit, many added touches and options feature, some of which include a commemorative numbered dash plaque, a body-colored hardtop, a glass top, a Lotus Esprit SE car cover, and a framed steering wheel with a commemorative plaque to keep on your mantel when you're not driving this beauty.
Engine
The Jim Clark Lotus Esprit packs a beefed-up 2.2L Turbo SE producing 264hp and 261Nm of torque. At the time, it was the only four-cylinder supercar in the world. When new, it made 264 hp at 6500 rpm — a fair upgrade compared to the other Lotus Esprit SE models. This Lotus Esprit could do the 0-60 mph run in just 4.8 seconds — a time that is respectable today. To quote Car & Driver, "Four-point-eight seconds is one-tenth of a second quicker than a ZR-1 with twice as many cylinders or a Ferrari 512TR with three times as many. The Esprit goes on to polish off the quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds at 104 mph-quicker and faster than either an Acura NSX or a Ferrari 348." Our subject car has always been stored on a battery tender, and the fluids have been topped off. A major service was done at 6000 miles by the dealer, with an oil change at 6200 miles.
The Lotus Esprit remains one of the most iconic wedge-shaped sports cars to emerge from the 1980s, blending sharp Giugiaro-penned styling with Lotus’ legendary lightweight engineering philosophy. By 1986, the Esprit Turbo had matured into a genuinely capable exotic car that combined dramatic supercar looks with impressive handling and turbocharged performance. This particular 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo stands out in classic red over a tan leather interior, showcasing the unmistakable proportions that made the Esprit a poster car of its era. Showing approximately 46,102 miles, this example presents as a highly analog and engaging driver’s car with desirable period details including removable glass roof panels, BBS mesh wheels, and a proper 5-speed manual transmission. Few cars capture the essence of 1980s exotic motoring quite like an Esprit Turbo.

Lightweight performance has always been close to the heart of Lotus. Colin Chapman was a legend on the formula one pitalane, his machines were tuned to be lightweight, and performance followed close. This penchant for being lightweight didn't stop at the race tracks; it also made its way into machines that rolled off production floors, and the machine we have today is one that sported that lightweight, all-smiles-per-gallon mantra to perfection. Feast your eyes on this 2005 Lotus Elise we have today. With a reported 7,900 miles on its clock and hailing from Powell, Ohio, this is nothing but a good time, all the time.
