Overview of 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280SL For Sale by Owner

The 85’ 280SL was the third generation in the ‘SL-Class’, which was meant to be a lighter, more fun, and slightly more exciting car compared to most of the Mercedes line-up that usually boasted luxury and comfort. The two-door sports car offered a fabulous experience to those who liked to drive a powerful and nippy vehicle, but also show off a little bit of wealth. In fact, this specific generation of the SL-Class was so popular, it became the second-longest series Benz ever produced after the G- Class, which is a justification of its legendary status even today. The example on offer is currently in Washington and is up for sale by its previous owner, who has looked after this 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280SL for 23 years.

Exterior and Interior

This specific 280SL happens to be the Euro-spec model, which is an added advantage to any diehard German auto fan. What this means is that this car has a few differences in comparison to the US model in terms of front bumper styling, headlights, and a few other subtle elements. The vehicle is cloaked in sleek silver paint that suggests a very well-maintained vehicle. This Merc includes its hardtop and soft top in the sale, giving you a chance to play around with its overall look. This classic car sits on a set of tires that have seen less than 5000 miles of road. Some additional items include a jack and spare tire, German-spec goodies like a first aid kit and flares, and a power rear-view mirror. The Interior of this 280SL is its calling card. Engine

This front-mounted 2.8L twin-cam euro spec engine is notably more powerful than its U.S cousin, producing around 185hp and 238N.m of torque via a 4-speed automatic gearbox that transferred power to the rear wheels before topping out 207km/h. This particular car is reported to feature disc brakes.
