There is no doubt that Pontiac's 1960s-era cars would not have been as exciting as they were without the vision, insights, and pure determination that GM's automobile engineer and executive John DeLorean had. He and his creative team of automotive designers and engineers transformed ordinary cars into intriguing vehicles. The 1969-1970 Pontiac Grand Prix was a great example of this. The Grand Prix was first offered for the 1962 model year. Pontiac created this sporty personal luxury two-door car to compete with Ford's Thunderbird. The Grand Prix from 1969 to 1970 was available in two models, Model J being the base model. What we have here is a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J with 38,500 original miles on its clock. It has all servicing up to date and you get three keys and the original owner's manual with the sale of this car.
Exterior and Interior
The 1969-1970 Grand Prix design included a tall hood, short deck lid, and semi-fast back roofline, resulting in a sporty and modern appearance. It also had a protruding front chrome grille, four headlights, and a rear design that added to its overall look. Our subject Grand Prix Model J wears a beautiful blue shade that is complemented by chrome trim around the car including the bumpers. It is topped with a black roof that smoothly slides towards the rear of the vehicle. The car rides on 17” retro wheels wrapped in Nitto Motivo tires. We were told that the classic black interior of this car is all-original. However, it is also reported that all wiring is new, and an aftermarket stereo system is available. This cabin shows its luxury side with wood veneer that also displays the Grand Prix moniker.
Engine
The 1969 to 1970 Grand Prix Model J was standard with the GTO's 350 gross horsepower 400 cu in (6.6 L) Pontiac V8 engine. This example has had its engine rebuilt and is fitted with new components such as an alternator, starter motor, and battery. The engine sends power to the wheels via a 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission giving you seamless acceleration.
The Pontiac Grand Prix emerged in the early 1960s as Pontiac’s answer to the growing personal luxury coupe segment, blending full-size comfort with muscular V8 performance and upscale styling.
