Overview of 1973 International Harvester Scout II For Sale by Owner

The SUV market of today is one that's crowded with manufacturers looking to maximize their profit margins and adapt to the latest tech, but turn back the clock 50 years and what you would find is true off-road legends geared to take their custodians wherever they please, much like this lovely 1973 International Harvester Scout II we have today.

Exterior and Interior

The "Scout IIs" were arguably the most popular design during the international scouts' 19-year production run. The iconic styling and classic SUV looks on this 1973 International Harvester Scout II are brought to life with a unique lime green exterior. Unlike many vehicles of its time, this classic American SUV doesn't sport chrome on every front; this gives the body a smooth and refined feel. Visibility is made better with LED lights up front, and drives off the beaten path are made better with open-top motoring; the current owner reports that a hard top is included in the sale. Ensuring you ride high off the ground and in style is a set of off-road wheels finished off in black and wrapped with a set of thick off-road tires. A custom interior speaks volumes when done right. Step into the black interior of this 1973 International Harvester Scout II, and you will find a mix of performance and original features. Custom upgrades include a set of Corbeau seats at the front and rear for a better performance drive feel, an upgraded steering wheel, a Pioneer head unit for your tunes, and SW gauges to ensure everything is in check. What's the cherry on top? Custom cupholders for your preferred drink of choice when cruising by.

Engine

It's commonplace to find modern engines like LS swaps present on SUVs from this era. In contrast, even though this 1973 International Harvester Scout II sports custom modifications on its exterior and interior, what lies underneath the hood is a period-correct 345ci V8 powertrain. The engine bay is finished off in red and sports redesigned valve covers to signify its old-school performance; the current owner reports a Holley carburetor and new spark plugs, ensuring everything is noticed. Power is sent to all four wheels through a three-speed manual transmission giving you more control on and off the road.

International Harvester, more commonly known for their industrial and agricultural vehicles, did produce an off-roader to rival the Jeep CJ between 1960 and 1980. It was called the Scout, and was available as a two-door SUV or two-door pickup truck. This red 1962 International Harvester Scout 80 from Beckley, West Virginia, is of the latter body style. With 46,241 miles on the clock and a 152ci four-cylinder under the hood, it’s representative of what a Sixties off-road capable pickup truck was like back then. It’s got a Warner T-90A 3-speed manual box, and even packs a Ramsey 8,000-pound PTO winch for recovery activities. If you’d like to own this quirky American classic, get in touch right now.

International Harvester has a rich history when it comes to producing off-roaders. The company began building trucks in 1907 and became more people-oriented during the 50s. Much like nearly every other off-road vehicle manufacturer of the time, International Harvester wanted a vehicle that could trade blows with the infamous Jeep CJ, and so the Scout was born. The Scout too, came much later, and the model you see here is the ever more rare soft-top variant. From its looks, you can tell that this 1973 International Harvester Scout has come a long way since it rolled out of the factory, but all the better, as it now represents modern styling with a mix of classic American ruggedness. With 90,000 miles on its odometer, this restored Scout II drives strong and is awaiting new ownership.
