Mercedes Benz wowed us with their AMG GT R when it debuted in 2017 notably with its menacing looks and competitive specs. It appears as though Mercedes let their stylists go mental and the performance engineers wanted a free hand too. It makes a compelling case against many of the established sports cars and for the 2020 model year, it only got better. Three versions were introduced, two being limited edition models. The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster, like the example we are showing here, is limited to only 750 units. This specimen shows 24,250 miles on its odometer and currently resides in New York.
Exterior and Interior
Jeremy Clarkson joked that the AMG GT R has a grille that can be used for sifting krill and bits of Battlestar Galactica on its gills. It is truly an aggressive-looking machine, and it looks even better with the Designo Graphite Grey Magno exterior. This AMG GT R has carbon fiber front fenders and a fixed GT R rear spoiler. The 19/20" AMG 10-spoke forged Black wheels complement the dark exterior and feature wheel-locking bolts. AMG's high-performance ceramic composite braking system ensures reliable stopping power. As you open the doors to this 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R, AMG side mirror logo projectors and AMG carbon fiber door sill panels welcome you. The interior enjoys KEYLESS GO and the Convenience Package. This Silver Pearl & Black two-passenger compartment hugs you into the AMG bucket seats with silver seat belts. For your audiophile, the Burmester high-end surround sound system will serve well.
Engine
Under the long hood of this AMG GT R Roadster is a Handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine producing 577HP. It sends power to the wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed transmission that utilizes an AMG electronic limited-slip differential, a carbon fiber composite driveshaft, and a carbon fiber torque tube. The AMG adaptive sport suspension and AMG traction control provide intense handling capability. The AMG performance titanium exhaust system not only aids engine performance but also gives breathtaking voice to the engine.

AMG seems to be doing a fine job these days, especially if parent company Mercedes-Benz has deemed them worthy enough to enjoy their own model line-up. Impressive for a tuner company that started off as independent in 1967, and was totally absorbed by Mercedes-Benz in 2005. The Mercedes-AMG GT is a sports car and grand tourer that was produced between 2014 and 2021, and the first of the Mercedes-AMG line. The car enjoyed a prominent role as the official Safety Car for Formula 1 from 2015 onwards, with the GT R variant prevailing in the role from 2018. If you’re looking for one, here’s a 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe with just 11,017 miles on the clock that’s ready for action.
“Mercedes-AMG GT R” is one of the sportiest names a sports car could have. Of course, choosing such a name sets the bar very high, but AMG is a company that knows what they are doing, and the GT R lives up to all expectations. The base version of the car, the Mercedes-AMG GT, is a grand tourer (as suggested by the name), meaning that it was quick but was less performance-oriented, aiming at a good compromise between performance and luxury (and comfort). The GT R is the high-performance version, removing the “unnecessary” pieces of convenience and luxury in favor of better performance. This is very clearly a driver’s (or racer’s) car. It may not be the version you want to daily drive, but it’s definitely the car you want to be in on a track day.
Graceful, elegant, and unmistakably Mercedes-Benz, this 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL represents one of the most iconic European roadsters of the postwar era. Showing just 22,466 miles, this classic grand tourer captures the style and prestige of the legendary 300 SL in a more relaxed and accessible package. Accompanied by both a beige convertible soft top and a removable body-colored hardtop, this timeless Mercedes offers open-air enjoyment as well as year-round versatility, making it a standout addition to any collection.
The Mercedes-Benz R107 is one of the brand’s most iconic and longest-running roadster platforms, combining timeless styling, V8 power, and exceptional build quality. This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL shows just 99,972 miles and presents as a well-preserved example finished in elegant Champagne Metallic over a Palomino leather interior. Equipped with both a removable body-colored hardtop and a folding soft top, this classic luxury roadster offers year-round versatility. Additional highlights include Zebrano wood trim, a Becker Grand Prix radio, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a period-correct in-car cellular telephone that serves as a fascinating reminder of 1980s luxury motoring.
Mercedes-Benz ushered in a new era of luxury roadsters with the R230-generation SL-Class, combining cutting-edge technology, elegant styling, and effortless V8 performance in a package that remains highly desirable today. This 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 shows just 41,462 miles and is finished in timeless Black over a Charcoal leather interior. Equipped with a long list of premium factory options including the AMG Sport Package, Comfort Package, Distronic adaptive cruise control, ABC suspension, and Keyless-Go, this SL 500 was specified with many of the model’s most sought-after features. Adding to its presence are aftermarket wheels and a Brabus-style body kit, giving this luxury grand tourer a more aggressive appearance while maintaining the refinement that made the SL-Class a benchmark in its segment.
