Cadillac is an auto manufacturer that has been known for its artistry at making outstanding, dramatic, and unforgettable cars. The Cadillac DeVille was originally a trim level and became a separate model that continued the Cadillac "Series 62" model. The name "DeVille" comes from the French words "de la Ville" or "de Ville," which means "of the town," which is plausible since these cars took over the city roads for half a century over eight generations. It's not every day that you'll come across a well-preserved, unique Cadillac such as our subject 1964 Cadillac DeVille Convertible. This point is proven, with the owner stating, "I get stopped everywhere I go asking about the car." It is located in Texas, rebuilt, and comes with the original owner's manual and Cadillac magazines. With just 74000 miles on the odometer, this car represents a rare opportunity to buy a collectible Cadillac.
The Cadillac DeVille went through a phase of restyling and re-engineering for the second generation. For the 1964 model (such as our subject car), a Bi-angular Grille with a V-shape in both vertical and horizontal planes was added up front. In addition, the main horizontal grille bar was carried along the sides of the body, while the parking and cornering lamps were housed in the outer grille extension panels. Our particular DeVille features a blacked-out exterior impression with black body color and black wheels with Cadillac emblems. The tires are recently installed with less than 3000 miles driven with them. The car was repainted before the current owner bought it and has had all its front and rear lamps replaced. It carries a new hood pad, bumper hood, and a Cadillac front end kit and is also newly resealed. The pristine theme is continued inside, getting better when you open the DeVille's door as you're greeted with the glamorous red leather interior. The leather bench seats provide seating for four adults in ample comfort. The dash features air conditioning controls, gauges, a radio, and a two-spoke Cadillac steering wheel.
Under the hood of this 1964 Cadillac DeVille Convertible is a 429 cubic inch V8 engine that made 340 horsepower from the factory. Power is handled via an automatic transmission while the driveshaft support and bearing kit has been recently replaced. Other preventative maintenance carried out to the mechanicals includes new rear coil springs, rear and front gas shocks, a new exhaust gasket, a new windshield washer bottle, a replaced driveshaft, and suspension bearings, checked and repaired shaft and balance. Added to this is a front brake conversion kit and rebuilt engine block.

Late 50s Chevys and mid 60s Cadillacs have always been popular candidates for restomod projects. However, not all of them are tastefully done like this fully restored 1965 Cadillac de Ville convertible restomod. 1965 was the first model year for the 3rd generation De Ville. It retained the same wheelbase as its predecessor, but the frame was a new perimeter frame (rather than the old X frame). The horizontal headlamp arrangement that had been standard since the late 50s was dropped in favor of a vertical arrangement, which also resulted in a wider grille. Gone were the softer lines of the old car, replaced by a sharper, more boxy design. The tailfins that had started shrinking since 1960 were now lower and slanted slightly downwards rather than slightly upwards. The new straight lines in its design make this car just as good looking with the top down as it does with the top up.
The Cadillac De Ville was introduced in 1958, as a full-size luxury car from America’s top luxury automaker at the time. De Ville means “of the town” in French, meaning that Cadillac intended the De Ville to be the talk of the town. The first generation is the most popular, naturally, thanks to its iconic shape and rear fins. In 1961, the second generation was introduced, with fresh styling and more body styles. Buyers could now pick from a four-door hardtop with four or six windows, a 2-door hardtop, or a 2-door convertible. If you’ve been trying to get your hands on a De Ville, check out this 56,435-mile 1964 Cadillac De Ville Sedan that’s up for sale right now. The current owner reports it to have been restored, hence its pristine appearance.
The De Ville name was first introduced as a standalone model range in 1959 and would remain a significant part of the Cadillac lineup up till 2005. The 4th generation came in 1971, and every subsequent year brought styling changes until the smaller 5th generation was released in 1977. 1974 brought changes to the front end (like a new grille and a new headlamp layout), and the introduction of a new option; the Air Cushion Restraint System (what is now known as airbags) for both front-seat occupants. It was, however, a costly option that didn’t prove popular among buyers and was discontinued after 1976. A 1971 Coupe De Ville reportedly came 3rd in the Cannonball Run, averaging 84.6mph and 8.9mpg.
Cadillac’s most popular model has got to be the Eldorado. Introduced in 1952, it enjoyed a fantastic fifty-year production run across twelve generations. The name Eldorado is inspired, as you may guess, by the Spanish term, and means ‘The Gilded One’. It’s also based on the Colombian lost city of Gold, namely El Dorado. With such nomenclature, you’d expect the Eldorado to be something, and those who have sampled one wholeheartedly agree that it could be the defining feature of Cadillac’s brand proposition. Today’s 1984 Cadillac Eldorado comes from Greensboro, North Carolina and has covered under 51,000 miles to date. It’s a fine tenth generation example, and a perfect embodiment of the Eighties as a result.
In the early 2000s, Cadillac wanted to build a stylish and fashion-inspired grand tourer. Cue up the XLR, with its Bulgari-designed gauge cluster, smooth styling, creamy V8 power and powered hardtop. It was meant to take the luxury grand tourer fight to the Germans, but at the time never quite achieved the success envisioned. General Motors aimed to sell at least 5,000 per year, but over the car’s nine-year production run, a mere 15,460 found homes. However, that means that the XLR is now an interesting curio, a future classic, and a car that’s actually rarer than some Italian exotica! So if you want to experience something American that’s actually quite nice to drive and live with, we’ve got a 2006 Cadillac XLR from Lake Tapps, Washington for sale. This car has reportedly covered 64,300 miles so far and looks in great condition.
