Whilst every other car manufacturer was trying to build the fastest, most powerful car, Ford created a new market segment, dubbed the “personal luxury car” in 1958. The car that debuted in that segment was the Ford Thunderbird, more affectionately called the T-Bird. The Thunderbird was produced for eleven generations, a testament to its popularity. Ten generations were produced between 1955 and 1997, and a retro-styled eleventh generation came onto the market between 2002 and 2005. It was essentially a luxury car among a sport-car heavy period. Our subject vehicle is a first-generation 1957 example in great condition following a full body-off restoration, with just 72,000 genuine miles.
Exterior and Interior
An attractive Starmist blue exterior with a matching blue and white interior graces this T-Bird. It rides on a set of Thunderbird wheels with tires in excellent condition. After the body off restoration, it is reported that the vehicle is in 80% original condition, and the owner states “frame is just as clean as the body”. The newly installed convertible top has never been operated, and a hardtop is given in the sale. An aftermarket radio is in place, with the original available as well. The original steel wheels and hubcaps are given with the vehicle, as well as extra trim and chrome pieces.
Engine
This Thunderbird is powered by the highest-spec engine that was available for it at the time, a 312cu (5.1L) V8 that produced around 225hp, mated to a two-speed ‘Fordomatic’ automatic. Interestingly, the Fordomatic is actually a three-speed transmission, in which second and third are utilized during normal driving when the gear selector is in ‘D’, whilst first gear can be utilized by setting the selector to the ‘L’ position, although it will select the first gear if the throttle is floored from a standstill whilst in ‘D’. The engine and transmission underwent a rebuild during the restoration, ensuring longevity and reliability for the future.
The 2002 Ford Thunderbird marked the return of one of Ford’s most recognizable nameplates, blending retro-inspired design with modern V8 power and a two-seat convertible layout. This 2002 Ford Thunderbird Deluxe shows approximately 57,334 miles and is finished in Merlot Metallic over a Torch Red leather interior with a black convertible soft top. The most distinctive part of this example is its Full Interior Color Accent Package, which brings extensive Torch Red treatment to the seat inserts, lower instrument panel, center console, door panels, steering wheel, and shift knob. Aftermarket wheels add a more personalized exterior touch, while the overall configuration keeps the car focused on relaxed V8 cruising with plenty of early-2000s retro character.
The 2003 Ford Thunderbird Premium brings together retro-inspired styling, open-top cruising, and V8 power in a package that was designed to echo the personal-luxury Thunderbirds of the 1950s. This example shows approximately 55,822 miles and is finished in Evening Black over a Torch Red leather interior, creating one of the more dramatic color combinations available on the eleventh-generation Thunderbird. Its specification is highlighted by Premium Series Order Code 110A and the Full Interior Color Accent Package, which carries Torch Red detailing throughout the cabin. Heated front seats, 17-inch chrome wheels, and the contrasting black convertible soft top further round out a Thunderbird that leans heavily into the stylish grand-touring character that defined this generation.
The 1960 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop Coupe represents the final year of the second-generation Thunderbird, a model that helped establish Ford’s personal luxury car segment with its combination of stylish design, V8 power, and comfortable cruising capability. This example features a custom teal exterior with a matching teal interior, along with classic upgrades such as Kragar wheels, an aftermarket steering wheel, and a custom suspension setup that give it a distinctive appearance. Showing approximately 47,896 miles, this Thunderbird is equipped with desirable factory-style amenities including air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes, making it an appealing choice for enthusiasts looking for a uniquely styled early Thunderbird.
This 1930 Ford Model A Phaeton Hot Rod takes the simplicity of early Ford design and turns it into a traditional open-wheel hot rod with a strong period-inspired attitude. Finished in red over a tan interior, it is powered by a 350ci V8 topped with triple 2-barrel carburetors and paired with an automatic transmission. This 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop is the kind of early pony car that gets straight to the point: a compact coupe, a small-block Ford V8, a four-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive. Showing approximately 17,433 miles, this example is finished in Caspian Blue over a black reupholstered interior and keeps the classic Mustang recipe intact while adding just enough personalization to make it feel more driver-focused. The 289ci V8, Hurst shifter, manual gearbox, and clean first-generation styling give it the sort of analog character that makes these cars so enjoyable even decades later.
This 1967 Ford Mustang GTA Restomod takes the classic first-generation Mustang formula and adds a serious catalog of modern performance and comfort upgrades. Showing approximately 301 miles, this example has received an extensive refresh centered around a 347ci Blueprint Engines stroker V8 rated at 440 horsepower, an AOD heavy-duty performance automatic, and a 3.55 Posi-Traction rear differential. Its mechanical upgrades are matched by a thoroughly updated cabin with Procar reclining seats, Dakota Digital instrumentation, Vintage Air, power windows, and a modernized audio system, making this a far more capable and usable take on the original GTA recipe.
