Overview of 1975 International Harvester Scout II For Sale by Owner

Whilst the International Harvester brand is typically associated with agricultural machinery, there was a time when they ventured into manufacturing light and heavy-duty trucks and off-road vehicles. The brand’s Scout series of off-road vehicles can be considered the harbinger of modern-day SUVs. The Scout was conceived and introduced as a response to the runaway success of the Jeep brand. Our subject vehicle is a 1975 International Harvester Scout II in excellent condition, reported to have no leaks on the inside, and with a host of tasty upgrades up its sleeve to ensure that your cross-country adventures will be memorable.

Exterior and Interior

This example is reported to have undergone a repaint two years ago, in the hue of green that you see in the pictures. With its suspension lift, beefy tires, and overall purposeful stance it is sure to elicit a second look from passers-by. A nondescript set of decals were added with the paintjob as well. It wears a set of brand-new Warn off-road wheels wrapped in 33” Toyo Open Country tires. The front bumper is a custom job with a plethora of LED lights sure to light up any dark road or trail. A black-painted bull bar hosts yet more LEDs, and the roof wears a black-painted roof rack that also hosts the spare tire. Heading inside, we find a customized set-up with double-diamond stitching on the seats, door handles and visors. The floor lining is courtesy of Ryno custom lining, and this example is stated as coming with air conditioning from the factory. The music system has been upgraded with a modern Bluetooth-capable unit.

Engine

International Harvester produced the Scout II with a myriad of motor options, including gasoline and diesel powerplants of four, six and eight cylinders, but this 1975 example sports the company’s homegrown 345ci (5.7L) naturally aspirated V8 that is capable of outputting 182bhp at 3,800rpm. This powerplant sends drive to the wheels (2H/4H/4L selectable) via a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission which is reported to be a new unit. The engine has been recently repainted and treated to new plugs and wires, a new DUI distributor and new carburetor. New brake lines have also been installed, and the vehicle has undergone a spring-over-axle suspension lift.
