One of the most iconic cars of the 20th century is the Ford Bronco. Its introduction in 1965 took the motoring world by storm. The Bronco was made to compete with the likes of the JEEP CJ5, International Harvester Scout, and Toyota Land Cruiser. It was offered as a Sports Utility Vehicle with a very capable off-road drivetrain. With a new version of Bronco around the corner, interest in the original production run of the Bronco is increasing. Our subject vehicle is a 1971 Ford Bronco and reportedly “runs great” as per the owner. It is available for inspection in Texas.
Draped in an inconspicuous Satin Green, this 1971 Ford Bronco rides on a set of Pacer off-road wheels, which are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler MT/R rubber. The front is mounted with a bull bar and a pair of KC fog lights. The rear also sports a bull bar. The interior is relatively spartan with barely any modifications. An FM/ CD player is offered in the way of in-car entertainment. This Bronco features a Grant GT steering wheel to maneuver the vehicle whether on the road or off the road. A custom roll cage has been installed and painted the same as the exterior in Satin Green. Enabling the extra ride height is a 6” James Duff lift.
The original Ford Bronco came in the basic 170ci to the 302ci small-block V8 engine. This Bronco has the 302ci V8 producing 200hp. The engine is mated to a rare 3-speed “on the floor” transmission. A Holly carburetor is installed, which helps with the engine performance.
The definitive American off-roader, Ford’s Bronco will always hold a special place in the hearts of many Americans. So, in the 2000s, Ford was feeling a little misty eyed and decided to create a rose-tinted eleventh generation homage to this iconic nameplate. Enter the retro-modern Thunderbird that was made between 2002 and 2005. Styled by Jack Telnack, the car sat on the Ford DEW98 platform, used an engine from Jaguar (who Ford owned at the time), and marked a return to roots of sorts, in that it was a two-seater, just like the first generation.
