Overview of 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 For Sale by Owner

The Ford Fairlane name first appeared in 1955, on Ford’s flagship full-size offering. Named after Henry Ford’s sprawling estate in Dearborn, Michigan, the Fairlane name would also see use in Ford models sold in Australia, Argentina and Venezuela. Up for sale today is a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 in great condition, with just 76,000 miles on the odometer, and two keys included with the sale. The current owner also tells us that it’s all up to date, making it a definite turn-key classic for you to buy and enjoy right now.

Exterior and Interior

This 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 has been repainted, and sports a black theme, punctuated by a gold-colored roof and side details. The car’s iconic Fifties looks are further accentuated by its chrome bumpers, chrome details, and chrome window edging, particularly around its stylish wrap-around windshield. Meanwhile, the car rides on aftermarket five-spoke chromed alloy wheels, granting it a retro-mod vibe. The interior of this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 has reportedly been reupholstered, and offers comfortable accommodation for four adults on plush front and rear bench seats. Actually, three people can travel per seat, but it’s not recommended, since the car doesn’t appear to have seat belts. Safety regulations were far less stringent in its heyday. The current owner informs us that the air conditioning is currently not functioning, so that’s an area that you’ll have to look into. Otherwise, everything else is present and correct, from the beautiful Art Deco-styled dashboard to the push-button radio and in-dash analog clock. The trunk is a similarly clean affair, and includes a full-size spare wheel; a rarity in modern cars.

Engine

We’re told that this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 is propelled by its original 332ci V8 engine. Factory figures are said to be around 240 hp in two-barrel form, which is what this car sports. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed Fordomatic automatic gearbox. Braking is provided via drums on all four wheels which work well, but you can’t expect the same on-the-dime stopping power as today’s cars with their large, ventilated disc brakes. Hence, you should drive this classic in a comfortable and relaxed fashion.
