Background Story of this 1962 Pontiac Catalina

Overview of 1962 Pontiac Catalina For Sale by Owner

Catalina sounds quite exotic, doesn’t it? Well, it’s a fitting name for Pontiac’s top-of-the-line offering of the '50s and '60s. Initially seen as a trim level for the Chieftain in 1950, the Catalina became its own model line-up by 1959. The range would expand over time to cover coupes, convertibles, hardtops, sedans, and station wagons. So why not experience a slice of Catalina goodness, with this 1962 Pontiac Catalina Convertible? The car has done 75,000 miles and is for sale by its original owner.

Exterior and Interior

This 1962 Pontiac Catalina Convertible has got quite a nautical theme going, thanks to its Sky Blue paint job and overall length, which really embodies the term Land Yacht. Stretching to around 210 inches in length, this is clearly a large automobile. You’ll note the extensive front and rear overhangs too, because the wheelbase is nearly 100 inches shorter than the car’s overall length. Then, you’ll find chromed bumpers and trim, dual headlamps, and a white convertible top. You need not exert much energy to deploy or lower this top; since this is a flagship car, you’ve got power assistance for the task. Simply operate the chrome switch in the center of the dashboard marked ‘top’, and it’s all done for you. The car rides on a set of Michelin tires, wrapped around a set of chrome wheels. The passenger cabin of this 1962 Pontiac Catalina Convertible features a matching blue theme, and provides front plus rear bench seats. With the top dropped, you can almost imagine the sheer joy of driving this vehicle, with one elbow resting atop the driver’s door, sunglasses on, enjoying the attention from onlookers as you drive by. The dashboard hosts the original push-button radio, but there’s a newer Blaupunkt unit with CD player installed directly beneath the upper dashboard. You’ve also got a heater for comfort on cold days and nights.

Engine

Even though this 1962 Pontiac Catalina Convertible is a sizable automobile, its 389ci V8 should have no trouble moving it around without annoying other road users. Thanks to its trio of carburetors and added cams, the engine should make a healthy amount of power too. Furthermore, you’re in control of that power, thanks to the car’s manual transmission. However, with drum brakes on all four wheels, you’ve still got ample stopping power.

SOLD

The Catalina nameplate in Pontiac nomenclature initially represented a top-level trim for the existing Chieftain Eight and DeLuxe Eight models. However, as we’ve seen many times before with American manufacturers, trim levels have been spun off as separate models. For the Catalina, this happened in 1959, offered as a two-door coupe, convertible, four-door sedan and station wagon. Today, the Catalina may not be at the top of every classic car collector’s list because not everyone remembers it, but it’s definitely an appealing choice for someone who wants to diverge from the crowd. This particular 1964 Pontiac Catalina is a four-door sedan hailing from Ballston Spa, New York, and comes with the original spare tire plus original bill of sale and even the original manual. Having traveled 77,421 miles so far, it’s ready for a new owner who will look after it and cherish it as it deserves. If that’s you, get in touch with us ASAP.

1971 Pontiac GTO

Current Ask
VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$49,999

A symbol of rebellion against the corporate machine, the Pontiac GTO was the cheeky result of General Motors banning their divisions from competing in auto racing in 1963. Three plucky gents, namely Bill Collins, Russ Gee and John Z. DeLorean weren’t pleased. However, these three smarts realized that while they couldn’t officially compete in racing, there was nothing to stop them from making thinly-veiled racing machines that could be sold to customers, to do as they pleased. Hence, the GTO was born in 1963, with a name inspired by the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO. Based on the Pontiac Tempest, it saw a large V8 stuffed under the hood and some neat performance upgrades. Today, we’ve got a 1971 Pontiac GTO for sale from Schenectady, New York. It’s done 80,462 miles and comes with a nice 400ci V8 to enjoy, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox.

1959 Chevrolet Corvette

Current Ask
VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$114,999

Designed by the legendary Harley Earl, the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette heralded an era of American automotive greatness that continues today, eight generations and more than seventy years later. Introduced in 1953 as an all-American two-seat sports car, the C1 went through several developmental hurdles before maturing into the beautifully refined machine seen here. By 1959, the Corvette had already received its important 1958 facelift—adding quad headlamps, heavy chrome detailing, and factory-installed seatbelts—making models from this period especially desirable. This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette, finished in Roman Red with iconic White Coves and located in Florida, represents one of the finest ways to experience the facelifted C1 era. Subjected to a complete show-quality preservation showing under 100 miles since completion, it blends timeless Corvette heritage with tasteful upgrades that enhance drivability while keeping the car’s classic character intact.
