Background Story of this 1968 Pontiac GTO

Overview of 1968 Pontiac GTO For Sale by Owner

Well regarded as one of the most fearsome muscle cars of the ʼ60s, a classic Pontiac GTO is a highly desirable automobile these days. You’ll find previous owners, those who have aspired to own one, and those who weren’t even conceived during its heyday all lusting for a GTO. That’s because the GTO has cemented a reputation as being a giant-killer. This particular 1968 Pontiac GTO Restomod is one pleasant way to honor the GTO’s legacy, as it’s true to the original in many ways, but also packs some neat performance enhancements to make it drive even sweeter. The car comes to you from Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, having covered 89,000 miles so far.

1968 Pontiac GTO - Overview Photo

Exterior and Interior

Dressed in Verdoro Green, this 1968 Pontiac GTO Restomod rocks a vinyl-covered roof, as was a popular style statement of the ʼ60s. The current owner says that the car rocks new Rally II wheels with center caps, including the spare wheel, and wears new Cooper Cobra tires. It’s also got an Endura front bumper and of course, those distinctive hidden headlamps that are revealed by motorized covers that slide out of the way when the headlamps need to shine bright in the darkness of the night. The interior of this 1968 Pontiac GTO Restomod comes in black, with seating for four occupants and sports a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Look out of the windshield over the steering wheel and gauge cluster and another quirky option of the day becomes apparent – the external, hood-mounted tachometer! This car also has got a push-button radio and a climate control system, although we’re not informed of its functionality.

Engine

Powered by a monstrous 400ci V8, this 1968 Pontiac GTO Restomod gets even more pep, thanks to an Edelbrock 750 carburetor and electric choke. Then, the current owner tells us that the car has got a new master cylinder, new power brake booster, new spark plugs, new valve cover gaskets, new ignition wires, new belts and hoses, new seals, new hood hinges and a new battery. Power goes to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox and a 3.23 positraction rear end. The car also sports new brake shoes and new rear shocks.

The Pontiac GTO, one of the last hurrahs for the iconic Pontiac brand before General Motors shelved them in 2010. In the Sixties and Seventies, the GTO was a performance icon, one of the signature muscle cars of the time. However, by the Malaise Era, the GTO had to be retired…but only for a couple of decades. You see, in the Two Thousands, General Motors’ Australian subsidiary Holden was making a fine two-door sports car called the Monaro. It had all the requisite characteristics such as a 350ci V8 and suitably alluring looks. So, GM figured that they might as well import the Monaro into the United States, make a few tweaks, and call it the GTO. So yes, this 2004 Pontiac GTO for sale in Conway, Arkansas actually started life in Adelaide, Australia before being shipped Stateside and sold through Pontiac. It’s a 6-speed manual car that’s received a Lingenfelter Performance Engineering tune, plus several nice upgrades. With just 55,500 miles on the clock and plenty of features to make it suitable for daily driving, this could be your modern muscle car fix right here.
