Background Story of this 1980 MG MGB

Overview of 1980 MG MGB For Sale by Owner

Today, MG is a brand under Chinese ownership, and well-known for electric vehicles. Historically though, MG was a British brand, owned by the British Motor Corporation. MG stands for Morris Garages, so you can glean that it has its roots in the British automaker Morris. In its heyday, MG was well-known for producing British roadsters that embodied the joys of driving. The MGB was one of their best-sellers, and was made from 1962 to 1980. Four iterations (Mk. I to Mk. IV respectively) were made. This 1980 MG MGB Mk IV is from the last generation, and comes to you with just 46,000 miles under its belt. Hence, it’s a great weekend car to escape from the digital world, and enter an alternate universe, one where cars are analog and driving is fun.

Exterior and Interior

Wearing a fetching black coat, this 1980 MG MGB Mk IV’s diminutive size is apparent when you park it next to a modern vehicle of 2024. Coming in at just 158 inches, it makes a modern compact car look gigantic in comparison. The car comes with a black canvas top, that’s really more cosmetic than functional. It’s meant to get you home in a relatively dry fashion should you be caught in some rain while enjoying open-top motoring. In fact, you’ll note that the car appears to have been designed to look its best top-down. The two-seat interior of this 1980 MG MGB Mk IV is similarly diminutive, with two leather-upholstered bucket seats only. This is a car best enjoyed alone, or with a like-minded passenger. It’s not a family conveyance. Hence, you won’t find many creature comforts, but there’s a heater and a push-button radio. Similarly, the car’s trunk is quite small and hosts the spare wheel, but there’s an external luggage rack for more capacity.

Engine

Pop the hood of this 1980 MG MGB Mk IV and you won’t find a V8 or even an in-line six. Instead, what greets you in a cheery fashion is a sprightly 1.8L four-cylinder engine. Thanks to the car’s small dimensions and light weight, you’ll be off in a very happy fashion, snicking through the gears of the 4-speed manual transmission and listening to the little engine’s surprisingly deep note. Meanwhile, the front and rear disc brakes will be ever-ready to bring you to a halt when required.

1975 MG MGB Roadster

PENDING SALE
$8,000

Morris Garages, or MG for short, used to be an iconic British automaker, responsible for some stunning sports cars, as well as more workmanlike family sedans. Today, the brand is owned by the Chinese and churns out mostly SUVs. The spunky sports cars of yore are no longer, save for examples like this 1975 MG MGB from Charleston, South Carolina. The MGB was made between 1962 and 1980, as the successor to the MGA. Nearly 524,000 cars were made during this time, but not many were preserved as time progressed on. So, this car, with its 75,790 miles and replaced convertible top represents not only a great way to enjoy a weekend back road blast, but a pretty darn good investment as well.

After the war ended, the popularity of classic British roadsters skyrocketed. Brands like Triumph, Sunbeam, and MG were able to market a great deal of fun, affordable, and nimble roadsters to a new generation of baby boomers who were happy to lap them up. While we may no longer live in that era, we can certainly do our best to recapture some of the joy that piloting a British roadster can bring, thanks to our featured car. It’s a 1977 MG MGB Convertible, known to be a compact, affordable, and stylish car. Located in the Bronx, New York, this example is reportedly showing just under 20,000 original miles on the odometer and is accompanied by its owner’s manual. With its original paint and a manual gearbox paired to the well-known 1.8-liter inline-four, this MGB presents as a time capsule from the golden years of British roadsters.

1971 MG Midget

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$10,500

Imagine if an automaker made a car called Midget today! There would be mass uproar, massive social media campaigns of condemnation and a lot of flak to contend with. The world sure has become a rather touchy place. No such finickiness existed in 1961 when British sports car maker MG or Morris Garages released a diminutive two-seat roadster. They simply called it the Midget because it was one of their smaller offerings. Prior, the Midget nameplate had been seen on some of their other cars too. So what’s so funky about this 1971 MG Midget MKIII from Indiana, Pennsylvania? Well, for starters it’s a fantastic way to experience true, unadulterated sports car motoring because it relies on light weight and small dimensions to give you a good time rather than brute force and wallowing about. Granted, these cars are well built to stand the test of time. So call us ASAP if you want it.

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$44,999

Ever wondered what families drove in the Fifties? This green and cream 1957 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan is one such possibility. The Chevy 210 range was introduced in 1953 and ran for four years until the Biscayne took over. It was targeted at the middle class buyer, and positioned as a midrange car, with some luxury appointments as well as economical features. Today’s example comes to you from Hillsboro, Ohio, with around 73,000 miles on the clock. It’s got a rebuilt 235ci straight six, a repainted exterior and a reupholstered interior in matching green and cream two-tone.
