Overview of 1991 Toyota MR2 For Sale by Owner

Without a doubt, Toyota, the Japanese automobile manufacturer, is the reigning mass-production manufacturer in the world. Their rise to success has been steady and never dull. While they have produced Corollas, Prius, and the like, they have also given staple material to the ultimate world tuners such as the AE86, Supra, Celica, and many more. One of these legendary cars is the Toyota MR2, a two-door mid-engine rear-wheel-driven sports car that is considered Toyota's best sports car ever. Its name means mid-ship run-about 2-seater. The MR2 was produced from 1984 until 2007 and has three generations under its belt. This 1991 second-generation Toyota MR2 is up for sale, features 164,000 miles on the odometer, and is ready for a new owner.

Exterior and Interior

The second generation Toyota MR2 was a car that was considered exotic by Toyota aficionados. It featured a sleek design angling low towards the front. The front fascia features a single-piece bumper/grille/air dam combo. Further enhancing its exoticness, its headlights are the pop-up type and sit flush with the hood when down. The sides feature brake vents to aid in cooling the rear brakes. The rear is host to an OEM three-piece spoiler and dual chrome exhaust tips. The car was reportedly painted red in 2021 but lacks documentation on it. It also sits on a set of Toyota OEM 5-spoke wheels painted in silver. The interior of this 1991 MR2 was originally done in black cloth for the seats; the seller reports that it was swapped with leather for better comfort when the interior was redone in 2021. Another upgrade is the aftermarket touchscreen Pioneer head unit and new speakers. The car also comes with cloth floor mats and a manually operated sunroof. The seller is also giving two sets of keys and a car cover.

Engine

Much of the MR2's success was its custom-tuned handling and engine. This 1991 Toyota MR2 sports a 2.2L naturally aspirated motor coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission and produces 138hp of power. The engine and the transmission have reportedly been rebuilt in 2021 but lack the documentation to authenticate the same.

Now here’s a car that’s the polar opposite of what Americans consider to be sporty. It’s a diminutive thing from the Nineties, with its little four-cylinder engine mounted behind the passenger cabin. Yet, the Toyota MR2 made waves in every country that it was sold. This Midship Runabout 2-seater (hence the name MR2) was produced across three generations from 1984 to 2007. Today’s 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo is a fine third-generation example that includes the original window sticker and owner’s manual with the sale of the car. Yes it’s got over 145,000 miles on it, but let’s not forget that it's a Toyota! 145,000 miles is mere chicken feed for this era of cars from the famed Japanese automaker.

Toyota’s MR2, or Midship Runabout 2-Seater, is a small, mid-engined roadster produced by Toyota from 1985 to 2007, spanning three generations. Its rear-wheel drive configuration and excellent weight balance make the MR2 a fantastic car for keen enthusiasts who are looking to learn the techniques of performance driving, albeit at a lower level of horsepower. The car’s light weight and relatively frugal powertrains also lent themselves well towards decent fuel economy, resulting in a very sensible vehicle that was also fun. You don’t find those two words in the same sentence when talking about most cars. So, if you want something that ticks those boxes while adding a third box called “Definitive Future Classic”, check out this first-generation 1988 Toyota MR2 that’s up for sale in Los Angeles by its second owner. It’s done just 36,600 miles and comes with a 1.6L supercharged engine to enjoy in it's completely original state as it left the factory .
