Overview of 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Junior ZR-II For Sale by Owner

Now here’s a lovely little curio all the way from the Land of the Rising Sun – Japan! It’s called the Mitsubishi Pajero Junior, and it’s a dinky little four-by-four! Yes, this cutesy thing you see in our photos is a fully-fledged off-roader! The Pajero Junior was made between 1995 and 1998, as a bite-sized variant of Mitsubishi’s capable Pajero (or Montero, depending on where you hail from) full-size off-roader. It’s a little larger than a kei car, but not by much. This particular 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Junior ZR-II is up for sale in Oceanside, New York, having covered a mere only over 28,000 miles so far. So, if you want a small vehicle that’s great for urban running duties but can also conquer an off-road trail and shame much larger four by fours, this is your ticket to ride.

Exterior and Interior

This 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Junior ZR-II comes in a two-tone scheme of green over silver. It’s a lovely JDM-styled look that’s popular with countless Eighties and Nineties machines from over there. The vehicle has got aftermarket LED headlamps and aftermarket wheels in black, plus ZR-II emblems. It also wears proper off-road tires (including the spare), and comes with a small front bull bar with a set of foglamps that look comically large, but are, in fact, regular sized. That should tell you how small this vehicle is, but here are some figures for the number-crunchers out there – 138 inches long, 61 inches wide and 65 inches tall, give or take. The interior of this 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Junior ZR-II is a strict four-seater and we’re told that there are aftermarket seat covers in brown. It’s suitably well-equipped, with air conditioning and heating, power windows, power mirrors and a modern stereo system with a touchscreen too. You can fold the rear seats for some truly amazing cargo space if you wish.

Engine

Power is supplied by a 1.1-liter inline-four engine, naturally aspirated and equipped with factory multi-point fuel injection, delivering smooth and reliable performance for urban driving and light off-road use. A 4-speed automatic transmission sends power through a part-time 4WD system, allowing the driver to select between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive for added traction on snow, gravel, or loose surfaces. While it does not feature a low-range transfer case, the Pajero Junior’s lightweight chassis, independent front suspension, and solid rear axle give it confident road manners and surprising capability for its class.

Anyone who has even a passing interest in cars likely knows about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. This is what happened when Mitsubishi decided to inject some of their World Rally Championship-winning DNA into their Lancer compact car. Ten generations of Evolution were made between 1992 and 2016, thrilling enthusiasts across the globe. Early models sadly didn’t make it to the United States, but later ones did. This particular 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR is rather interesting, as it’s from the last generation of Evo, as they are fondly known. With its 2.0-liter MIVEC TURBO engine, 5-speed manual transmission and Sight & Sound Package, it’s got quite a value proposition to offer. In short, it’s a ferociously quick family car that can easily settle down for a daily drive, then buckle up for the weekend blast at the track.
