Overview of 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am For Sale by Owner

Want to relive the glorious Seventies? Why not buy this 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from Riverton and do just that? With its black exterior, taninterior and 301 Turbo V8 under the hood, this 87,500-mile car is perfection right here. Second-generation Firebirds like this one are most renowned for their role in Smokey and the Bandit and you can now experience what it must have felt like to rock and roll around in one of these cars.

Exterior and Interior

This 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am comes to you in sleek black, with some gold pinstriping along the sides. The car’s period alloy wheels also come in matching gold, with BF Goodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires wrapped around them. Up front, you’ll see the signature quad headlamps of the second-gen Firebird, before the third-gen switched to pop-ups. Meanwhile, the car’s hood scoop features the TURBO 4.9 script, to tell everyone that this is one of them factory forced induction jobs. The lovely curved rear window features plastic slats which were, once again, a very Eighties design feature. If you look beneath the rear bumper, the exhaust tips become visible – downward pointed, two per side. Oh, and as we approach the car to enter its passenger cabin, we can’t help but note that this car comes with the T-top configuration. You can remove the two glass panels and enjoy a semi convertible experience. The tan interior of this 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am can take four adults with ease. It’s got a metal-turned dashboard, power windows, a Delco push-button radio and air conditioning as key amenities.

Engine

This 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am packs the 301ci Turbo V8 that was only offered for 1980 and 1981 model years. It was the first production turbocharged engine for Pontiac, and made a respectable 210 horsepower. Remember this was the time of the Malaise Era, when the typical V8s were making 50 or more horsepower less! The engine uses a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor and electronic spark control to ensure reliable performance under load. It powers the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic gearbox and a Positraction rear end.
